New Grove is a passionate artist AT HEART,

an expert THAT inspires…

New Grove’s name celebrates renewal: a new adventure in the history of the company, but also the beauty of a cane industry that knows how to diversify its creations around its plantations.

New Grove’s icon represents the endemic blue latanier leaf from Round Island, a palm leaf used to produce Arak before sugarcane was implanted on the island. It is known to be the ancestor of rum in Mauritius.

New grove is mauritius!

In the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean lies Mauritius: A tropical island surrounded by coral reefs and blue lagoons, bordered by paradisiac beaches and lush forests. Its mesmerising sugarcane fields, grown in rich volcanic soil,

are ripen in the warm tropical sun. The green gold encapsulates the core of island life: enjoying the art nature provides through various tastes and flavours. Mauritius is a symphony of cultures and influences, a unique tropical plurality unfolding into bright colours, with authentic vibrant music, flavours and traditions.

Part of History

1740

Our story begins at The Domaine de La Villebague, in the village of Pamplemousses, where the first sugar mill was built in 1740 and the first rum distillery came to life in 1743.

1838

Victor, Pierre and Eugène Harel acquired the Belle Vue sugar estate, in the Pamplemousses district.

This acquisition marks the beginning of the Harel Frères group. Thanks to Pierre Charles Harel’s vision, distillation techniques improved massively, along with the legal framework. The group is considered the pioneer of distillation on the island.

1932

Harel Frères acquires part of the Mauritius. OK Distillery Co. Ltd to improve its distillation process.

1969

Harel Frères fully acquires the Mauritius OK Distillery Co. Ltd., now Grays Inc Ltd = New Grove Distillery.

2003

Grays Inc Ltd. creates the New Grove rum brand and the very first ageing cellar in Mauritius.

2012

Rebranding of Harel Frères to become Terra.

2020

New Grove wins the World’s Best Rum title at the International Sugar Cane Spirit Award.

The exclusiveness of New Grove lies on the land that once saw the first distillery, at the time of the East Indies Company.
